The potential role for hydrogen in future energy systems

The talk will address the current challenges facing our energy systems, and the role hydrogen can play in addressing those challenges. Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier, which can be produced in a variety of ways including directly from fossil fuels, through electrolysis of water and from biomass. Once generated, hydrogen can be combusted, or used in a fuel cell to produce energy for a range of end uses. Hydrogen can be stored in large quantities, and so has the potential to play a role in aiding the integration of the expected large increase in variable, renewable resources into our energy systems. The talk will describe the research currently being carried out into hydrogen energy at the University of South Wales.
