Final thoughts on Musical Virtuality

    This chapter is a transcription of a private blog. Initiated by the editors and Paul Carr, it was designed to provide an opportunity for the Handbook’s contributors to share ideas and develop concepts they had proposed in their individual chapters with the aim of facilitating further dialogue and a deeper understanding of the relationship between music and virtuality. Topics cover all seven parts of the book, ranging from virtual performers, virtual composition, and the impact of digital technologies to practices of virtuality within the music itself. The Authors’ Blog also asks and discusses the sort of questions that students and researchers new to the relationship between music and virtuality will find useful, and it was fascinating to observe how the subject of ontology continues to emerge as a philosophical debate. Hopefully this will inspire further research in the field. The discussions are presented more or less as they appeared on the blog, with only minor edits to syntax.
